Does the insulation make the door heavier?
Yes, garage door insulation adds approximately 10 – 15 lbs to the door. The Garage Medic will check your door and adjust the spring tension to accommodate the slight increase in weight.
Can insulation make my garage door opener work harder?
If spring tension is balanced properly the opener will not work any harder than it did prior to adding insulation.
Can all garage doors be insulated?
All doors that are hollow pan metal garage doors can be insulated. Wood doors or doors that are not metal cannot be insulated.
What is the material made up of?
The insulation material is made of Polystyrene and it has a white vinyl back which adds to the overall appearance of the finished product.
What is the “R” Value for Garage Door Insulation?
“R” value depends on the material being used. Our Polystyrene sits are 6.5. Other materials installed by a Garage Door Manufacturer can be anywhere from 6.5 to 19.7.
